PAINTED TONGUE PAINTED TONGUE salpiglossis sinata From the Greek salpinx (trumpet) and glossa (tongue). A native of Chile this cheery show stopper will produce 5 cm across funnel-shaped flowers in rich shades of yellow, purple, mahogany and red. The heavily veined flowers bloom from the bottom up. Like their relatives the petunia, they are long flowering, drought-tolerant and cold hardy. Try them in a window box. Type: Annual Light: sun to part shade Soil: good, moist garden Spacing: 30cm Height: 60cm Season: summer to fall Propagation: Direct seed after all frost danger. OR Indoors. Surface seed.
